Inter County Girls U17 Stage 2 22-11-14

First up...Northumbria.
We had a slow start from our Casey Miller, Charlotte Bamford and Charlotte Davies.
The very early start and long journey took its toll. as each lost 3-0.  Emily Fuller found better form and looked like securing a win when her opponent had a blood break and much needed rest and came back to win 3-2.  Nadine El-Refee got off to a slow start too and had her hands full with a tricky left hander as mistakes crept into her game.
The tie won by Northumbria 5-0

....Cumbria
After a rest and food the pack were ready to go.
Charlotte D and Casey got off to a quick 3-0 and 3-1 win.  it looked like they had found their range.
Emily got into a tough match at 1 and although the rallies were long and demanding she eventually succumbed and lost 3-1.  Nadine, still working with an error prone game found enough to come back and win 3-1 showing some lovely finishing skill at the front of the court. A walk over at 5 ensured we won the  tie 4-1.  A good win.

Yorkshire
It is now obvious that Cambridge are playing well.
They are watching and moving so much better than they did in the morning.
Bamford had a her hands full with a very speed y opponent but she found a way and won 3-1.  A good win.
Miller's draw was a lefty.  No-one likes playing lefties not even lefties!  She fought very hard but couldn't find an answer and lost 3-0.
Davies had the match of the day.  Great speed and fighting courage that lifted everyone watching.  An inspiring match and Emma Campion was running out of ideas but had just enough at the last to pip Charlotte to it.  A superb game but a 3-2 loss.
Emily came across an on fire opponent and searched hard for a way through but couldn't find the answer and lost 3-0.
Nadine had the last match and it was a strange one.  even though it looks like it is over it's not over 'til it's over.  Her opponent had a broken hand but was still hitting balls....!
Nadine won 3-0 but had to be careful her opponent didn't just hit winners.  Patience paid off and she won 3-0.

Overall a very good weekend.  We came third.  One game against Yorkshire and we would have come second.
Well played girls.  A monumentally long day but fun too.
